If my hamster walks on stones, will this help file his nails down?

he has a few stones in his cage that he walks on or sits on. some of his nails on his back feet are pretty longIf my hamster walks on stones, will this help file his nails down?
I personally think a brick works better, as they are much coarser. Putting the brick under the water bottles ensures that the hamster must walk over it at least once a day.If my hamster walks on stones, will this help file his nails down?
Yes walking on stones does help to file his nails down, if this doesn't work then you should take him to the vets and get them professionally cut, NEVER try to cut its nails yourself as it can cause them great stress and you don't know how short to cut them (unless you are a vet yourself)
Yes in the wild hamsters need long claws for digging so they will grow all the time and there is no one in the wild to cut them for them digging helps keep the front ones short and running around on stones and hard ground helps the back ones stay short.
No, the best thing is sand paper.

Worked for all my hams
Yes, they should

  • Is it better to file your nails or clip them?

I'd say clip them and then file then after to get the right shape you want.Is it better to file your nails or clip them?
There is no better way. It just does two differnet task. If your nails are really long and you don't want to sit there and file them cut them first. Then to get the shape that you want file them.

    Nail tips:

    [Filing nails:]

File nails when the white part of the nail tip has grown 1/4'; from the pink part of the nail. Filing nails before the nail is 1//4'; long can weaken the nail. Allowing the nail to grow to a length longer than the base pink nail length will be sure to make them break easily. Filing from side to side can weaken nails. When filing, go from the corner to the center in one direction. Follow the groove on the side of your nail.

    [Buffing nails:]

Buffing nails can give them a shinier finish. Start at the cuticle and work your way down to the tip with medium pressure. Don't use a back and forth movement as heat builds up and this can damage your nails. Continue lightly until all ridges on the nail surface have disappeared.

    [Clean nails:]

Be sure that nails are clean and dry, free of any oil or lotion, before applying polish. Remove any old polish from nails.

    [Base Coat:]

Always use a Base Coat and let it dry for at least 1 minute. The Base Coat helps to keep nail polish from chipping and makes polish last longer.

    [Applying Polish:]

Apply two coats of polish. You should be able to cover the nail in three stokes, one on each side and then one in the middle.

    [Drying time:]

Always allow your polish to dry thoroughly for several minutes before you apply the next coat. This will avoid the new coat from dragging on the surface of the previous coat and allow the next layer adhere better. Darker shades take longer to dry. Avoid fast drying polish. It doesn鈥檛 last as long.

    [Top Coat:]

Once your nail polish has dried, apply a clear Top Coat to seal it. Continue to apply the Top Coat daily to keep nails looking fresher longer.

Remove with a nail polish remover that contains hydrating oils.Is it better to file your nails or clip them?
I think it is better to clip your nails to about the length that you want them. Then use an Emmery board to file them to the exact shape that you want. Filing your nails allows you to get rid or any uneven or sharp points left by the clippers. Do not forget to take care of your cuticles also!
Use both method.. Clip them for trimming and file them to give them a clean look or a nice curve look..
I'd say that you should cut them first to how long or short you want it, then file them to get the shape you want.
If you already got the right shape then you should file frequently to maintain the length. I'd go for filing because you would have more control over your nails.
it is always better to clip your nails as no dirt will accumulate beneath them also when u scratch any part of your body there are less chances of getting infected ,another reason is it takes a lot of time filing your nails where as clipping does not
    clip. so much more convenient!

Can i file my dogs nails with sandpaper?

Yes, if you want to be sanding all day long. Just use a dremmel tool or a clipper. They both work just fine. Can i file my dogs nails with sandpaper?
sure, groomers use dremels and that is just the same, just be careful. Can i file my dogs nails with sandpaper?
I dont' see why not. A nail file is just fine sand paper.
Sure, but a dremmel will work much better.
yea it might take a while
    yes

Do u prefer to file your Nails Square shaped or Oval - why?

Oval looks more natural, but doesn't lend itself well to some modern styles, such as the French manicure. Both can look good, but I think it depends on the nail length. For short nails, oval is the best (think of nails on guys--square looks unkempt). For very long nails, I prefer squared. In between, squared with softer corners.

It's all fashion choice, though, so there really aren't any rules. Experiment with your own fingers when your nails are long. If you don't like one look, you can cut back to the other.

Good luck.Do u prefer to file your Nails Square shaped or Oval - why?
Square if your young, oval if your old.Do u prefer to file your Nails Square shaped or Oval - why?
I always file my nails square it has a completely different look.

I think the square nail goes with a sporty look better then an oval nail shape, but is also pretty in a dress situation.

I have always had my nails long and have always done it this way.
Oval, its more feminine, and makes your fingers look longer. Square one makes your fingers look chunky and totally isnt feminine.
i prefer to file my nails squared because thats the way they grow out, and i love natural look.
Oval.To follw the shape of my fingers.
square shaped for sure.. oval looks dumb..
    SQUARE!
Square, looks more up to date. I think oval nails look artificial and old-fashioned.
Oval since it chips the least......
I prefer mine oval. They are not particularly long and it just makes them look a bit longer than they are.
Ladies, go oval, unless you want to look like a cheap hooker.
I like oval. They look more realistic and they're easier to file. If I'm getting fake nails though, I like square.
I like square with curved edges. It looks best that way with my piano fingers.
Square but just straight tip and no sharp corners. It is best for French tip and looks cleaner than oval esp. if you grow your nails long.
Oval cos otherwise I keep catching my nails on things - they are really long
Oval, because its always been that way since I was young - my daughter likes hers oval also.
square, i really don't have a reason just always have.
I can't have my nails long, because I'm majoring in culinary arts.

But i think squarish but with rounded edges is best. LIke a combination of the two. they don't get caught on things and break, but they don't have to be completely oval either.
Oval. It elongates the fingers and matches the natural curve of your nail's moon, which is how manicurists suggest you file your nails.

Square nails make fingers look short and stubby.
i pefer my nails to be filed in oval shape because its easy to apply nail polish and also it looks beauty.
I prefer square, they look better on long fingers. Oval would make them seem longer. :)
Oval because it just looks better!!!
Oval. Most natural and very elegant and feminine.
