Why do they file only the center part of the nails on a dead persons toe nails?

An aunt of mine was involved in a serious car accident were an oncoming truck(drunk driver) passed the red lights and hit their car full speed, one aunt died instantly, one still lives and was concious through out the whole accident, ambulances, hospital, etc. and the other died on her way to the hospital. SHE DIED but later REVIVED IN THE COLD FREEZER WERE THE CADAVERS ARE KEPT IN THE HOSPITAL now that she is better she wonders why the center part of her toe nails are filed?Why do they file only the center part of the nails on a dead persons toe nails?
