How do you file a dog's nails?

My dog will not let aus clip his nails. we have to give him a sedative and then he gets sleepy and we can clip them but it takes forever for the pill to kick in. He doesnt care if we file his nails so how do you do it the right way. how do you get the nails smooth and round like in the peticure commercials? How do you file a dog's nails?
dont waste your money on that pedicure thing, just go buy an inexpensive dremil and depending on the size of you dogs nails use the grit needed (fine for small dogs heavy grit for bigger dogs) its easy your dog just needs to get use to it. Press on the dogs nail a bit to keep it from vibrating so much when you are filing. Good luck!!How do you file a dog's nails?
It's always been a struggle to trim our doggie's nails. Well, not anymore since we got Peticure at www.peticure.com. It felt awkward the first few times of using it on our dog but eventually you'll get the hang. VERY IMPORTANT- make sure you watch the demo video on their website before using it. If it worked for me, it might work for you as well. Good luck!
I use a dremel on my dogs nails, I know you said that you don't want to use an electric one, but they tend to be quite so dogs tend to tolorate it better.
I have been using a cordless, rechargable dremel tool for over 20 years. I love it.
why dus your dog need his nails clipping if hes out on the concrete or on walks they shud be bnlunt enuff
