I'm a guy, should I file my nails, and if so, what should I buy and how?

I have always used a nail clipper to do my nails, but obviously I can never keep them round using one, and they just don't look as good as other peoples nails who are nice and round.





Is it okay for guys to use ';nail files'; to round nails - if that's what your meant to use.. If so, what would I need to buy and how would I do it?!

Get an emery board from a drugstore. Trim first, then use the rough side to file initially, then smooth the edges with the finer side. I would recommend a more expensive nail file, preferably padded. If you have the money to spend on a man manicure, go ahead. It looks better and gives the impression that you take care of yourself.

Finally a bloke who cares about his appearance!! Ignore the butt-ugly homophobes, there is certainly nothing wrong with any guy taking an interest in his appearance. Go to any pharmacy and buy an emery board. They don't cost much and you can buy them in packs. When filing only move the emery board, not your finger and file in one direction only to avoid damaging the nail. Happy filing!!!

Go to your local 'The Body Shop' store. They sell a 'pad' which is about 9cm long. It has 4 sides, each of which has a separate use ( as printed on each side). 1 = File nail edge 2 = Remove ridges 3 = Smooth nail 4 = Shine nail. I bought one last year and it is brilliant for nails and lasts a long time. If you are shy you can always say your girl friend has asked you to get her one. They are inexpensive to buy too.
Your'e a bloke?... use an angle grinder like the rest of us... and light your cigar with the sparks. Try not to hit your steak with the sparks though only girls cook them!





If you're stuck, a belt sander will do the trick.

Yes it's ok for guys to file their nails. It's not gay. If your edges are ragged after cutting them, go to the drugstore and buy a nail file, either metal or cardboard and just smooth out the edges.

dont listen to the others. just because you want your hands to look good doesnt mean your gay... actually a lot of guys get there nails done. a lot of girls also like it better when there man keeps him self clean. they look good and it feels better than a guy who doesnt do anything or bites them if you know what i mean.... just go out and get a nail file there cheap and do the trick.
As a straight female...definitely file the nails. I hate getting scratched accidentally because some guy is to homophobic to do something that might be considered ';girly';.


You should be able to get a man's manicure kit at the drug store. It should have all the gear...clippers, files, etc.


An emery board will work...they're about $1 at the grocery store.


Start one one side and file around to the other going in ONE direction. If you saw back and forth you will just damage the nail and it could tear...making your problem worse.
Sure! File away =) I know a bunch of guys who file their nails and they look great! It is pretty easy to do. All you have to do is go to any store, like WalMart, and buy some files in the section where you would find cotton puffs and nail products. You'll have a whole selection of files to pick from. The basic cheap ones will work just as well, but you'll have to pick them up more often.





When filing, you can go back and forth, or you can file to one side. Most women who have real nails file to one side. This helps your nails not to split. The rest is kind of easy... All you have to do is stop when you think it looks good!

yes yes yes!! you can tell allot about a man and his overall hygiene by how well groomed his hands are. and don't forget the cuticles!! my advice? get a guy manicure at least once a month -makes a huge difference. if a guy has gross cuticles or rough nails its over for me!

Of course it is okay to file your nails. Most nail clippers come with a small file attached to them. Of course, you cannot carry those on an airplane.


You can get a cheap emery board, or do what I do. When I go to my parent's house, my mom usually has one sitting around. it only takes like 5 minutes to do all of your nails.

Oh my gosh! a man finally man enough to ask such a question! I am so happy! i think every guy should file there nails! it is unnatural for men to have long nails! Plus they hurt! clip them short first and then file them! It also helps to go get a male manicure at-least once a month! it keeps them clean and looking great! don't listen to other guys when they are stupid enough to think just because you want your nails to look nice your gay! it isn't true!
why the heck would you want to file your nails just bite them thats what i do exspecially whan my teacher gos on and on and on believe me it keeps you busy and before you know it class is over time for next period.
I don't think you should file your nails, but if you want to (or need to) you'd have to use a girl's one because I don't think that they make them for guys. You can get them all over the place, and if you don't want to get one yourself ask your mom, sister, girlfriend or whatever to pick one up for you. You are usually suppossed to file them straight across, but since you're a guy then you might want to round them.

Just go to walmart, Walgreen's, or wherever they have a beauty section and buy a nail file.. doesnt matter which one you buy really.your nails have to be a little long in order to file them roundly, dont cut them before you start filing, just file roundly. kind of hard to explain
