How can i file my macaws nails?

my macaws nails are geting long and sharp when she iis on my shoulder her claws dig into my neckHow can i file my macaws nails?
The safest thing to do is to bring your macaw to a vet and have them show you how to trim its nails. You could potentially kill a bird if you cut a nail too short and hit the quik. A bird can die very quickly from bleeding.How can i file my macaws nails?

Clipping the nails of a Macaw can be hazardous to your health.... lol ..... If you have never done it, then take him to an Avian vet Http://aav.org and watch and ask questions. Do this a couple of times before trying it on your own, if you still want to...





Note: It takes 5lbs of pressure to break a finger

i would def seek a vets help with a macaw, if u suddenly try and clip his nails he might get scared and nip in self defence, they can take of a finger if scared enough lol goodluck :) check out http://www.parrotcentral.net for good parrot info
don't file we use dog clippers on Hawks, Eagles Falcon's and Owls bet they will work with your guy. Dont cut to deep just clip the point just like you would do a dogs
