I bought a Pedi Paws for my dog,but every time i try to file his nails and runs and hides! what should i do?

we were gonna have my dog just sit on the floor and reward him a treat after each nail and every time we try to grab his paw he takes it away. So please give me a few tips on how to have him stay calm.

and if you answer this thanks. it would help a lot!I bought a Pedi Paws for my dog,but every time i try to file his nails and runs and hides! what should i do?
you need to work with them to get used to the device in general. It's a good idea to start with it just running in your hand when you feed him or give him treats or just have him around it. Then you need to ';pet'; him with the back side of it while it's running to get him used to the idea that this is a running tool. Then slowly you can start to work your way down to his nails. You can't do this quickly and it is going to take some time. You have to get him to associate the tool with good times and at the same time convince him that it's not going to hurt them. They don't understand what it is, they just know it makes a high pitched noise and is something they've never seen before.

This whole process will take quite some time. That is the problem with that whole ad campaign, they make it look like dogs don't mind them at all, but if fact it's the complete opposite. Dogs do not like mechanical tools, that's why they bark at vacuums, lawn mowers, motorcycles, etc. It takes a lot of training and desensitizing to get a pet used to using dremels on their nails and if your pet didn't like to have his nails trimmed with clippers then you are going to have to work extra hard to get them to like the pedi-paws.

Good luck and remember, go very slow in the training for your dog or he will always associate that trimmer as something that he doesn't like.I bought a Pedi Paws for my dog,but every time i try to file his nails and runs and hides! what should i do?
I haven't found anything that eases my dog's stress about having the nails trimmed.

I used to take him to the vet ($15).

But now my groomer has established a sort of trust/truce with him so she does it. It is usually included in a grooming but my dog used to be too stressed to let the groomer do it. It took two vet techs and a muzzle to keep my 16 pound dog still enough to trim the nails. Whoa.
I struggled with this too and after getting completely scratched up by my dog who freaked out, I just pay the $8 and get him cut by a groomer. That way I dont have to deal with it, and his nails are done and cut in about 5 minutes.
I would take the thing back to the store. I tried that and it doesnt work very well!!
Send it back.. that's exactly what I did.
