To answer the question, a rock or brick under the water bottle is a good idea. If they are calm enough, you can also use a nail file. I find it hard to keep my ratties still long enough to file, though. =)Pet Rat- Is their any way to help file their nails down, with out cutting their nails?
This doesn't have much to do with their nails, but MAKE SURE YOU WASH YOUR HANDS EVERY TIME AFTER YOU PLAY WITH IT! I had to go to the hospital because my friend and I didn't wash our hands. I got rat bite fever even though the rat didn't bite me. I just got the bacteria in my system! I was in the hospital for five days, and had been sick for about a week and a half before that. None of the doctors i went to could figure it out until I went to a specialist. I had headaches, stomach aches that felt like i was being stabbed, migratory arthritis, swollen joints, and a fever that wouldn't go down. Thanks to the swollen joints and arthritis, I couldn't get out of bed without someone's help. I even needed to be escorted to the bathroom! I put a brick under my rat's water bottle. Every time she gets a drink, she files her nails on it. You could also get the mineral perches from the bird section of pet stores and attach them all over the cage so your rat can file down her/his nails as he/she plays. Good luck!
you can put a rock in their cage. When the rat climes on it, it helps file down their nails.
to sonny h. THAT IS SOO NOT TRUE and you watch too many movies! rats make awesome pets. I have TWO of them. I love them both! why would anyone in their right mind hate rats. they are the cutest, sweetest things ever!
ps. maybe im not in my right mind, but that is not the reason i have rats!
rats are good pets don't judge something if you have never held a real rat.
