What is the diffrense between a nail file and a buffer?

i went to a store one time and it said that a nail buffer/file was on sail.but after i purchased it they were the same. i thought a buffer made your nails shiny so what i purchased was a nail file on both sides. What is the diffrense between a nail file and a buffer?
The nail file shapes and makes your niails shorter or however you want them. And a buffer is something you rub on the top of your nails to make them shiny and smoothWhat is the diffrense between a nail file and a buffer?
It probably is a nail file on one side (the side with the harder grit) and a buffer on the other (the softer side). If you want a shiny nail buffer, purchase a buffing block. It has 3 (or sometimes 4) different sides. One side (usaully gray) is where you begin, then a white side, then after that you would want to use the gray side. The white and gray do not have any ';grits'; which will harm your nails. It is only used to shine them. Go to professional beauty supply company and ask for a nail buffing block. MAKE SURE IT HAS ATLEAST 3 DIFFERENT COLORED SIDES. Or go to a Salon and ask the Nail Tech to sell you one. Usually they have them for retail. Good luck and don't use anything harder than 240 grit on your natural nail, it will harm it.
The buffer is for the top of your nail and the file is for shaping the tips of the nail.
a buffer usually has 2 sides one rough and one soft.and you rub it on the top of ur nail. a file has 2 rough sides and then you rub it on the tip of ur nail.
THE BUFFER WILL SMOOTH AND SHINE THE TOP YOUR NAILS, AND A NAIL FILE WILL SMOOTH AND SHAPE THE EDGE OF YOUR NAIL.

YOU MAY BE CONFUSING THE SMOOTHING SIDE OF THE BUFFER WITH THE NAIL FILE...
A buffer is to make the top part of your nail shiny and the filer is to shape the tips.
Yeah, a nail buffer makes your nails shine and a nail file makes them shorter/shapes the nail.
yeah, a buffer makes the nail shiny after you file it down.
buffer just makes ur nails shinny

nail file, files away your nail (gets rid of)
