What is the proper way to file nails?

Mine are 2 long and they are splitting whrer I dont file them right. In order for them not to grow more and not split i need to file they down right. How do I do that?What is the proper way to file nails?

You start at the left side and go right, not back and forth, that's what chips them. Try using nourishing nail polish and use garlic on your nails to make them stronger.
You should get a really good nail filler
